Systemic Antifungals

  • These may be necessary in cases where topical therapy is challenging or otherwise ineffective or in some cases of deep or chronic Malassezia dermatitis.

Oral Antifungal Medication Doses12

  • Ketoconazole: Contraindicated - Cats may be more prone to developing hepatotoxicity than dogs.
  • Fluconazole: 5-10 mg/kg q24h
  • Itraconazole: 5 mg/kg q24h
  • Terbinafine: 30-40 mg/kg q24h
